On Wednesday 28th March 2018, Kettlebrook Short Stay School held a Sports Relief Day. Students donated £1 to wear non-school uniform and there were a range of fund raising events that occurred throughout the day.

A cake bake sale was organised and hosted by our resident cake expert Mrs Patel. D group baked a fresh batch of delicious cakes in their food lesson to add to selection on sale.

Members of A and B Group, currently working towards completing a Sports Leadership qualification, officiated and ran a range of Fitness Challenge stations. Students donated 30p per turn to take part in a Basketball Free Throw, Speed Bounce, Standing Long Jump or Agility Run challenge. The person who achieved the best score on each challenge was awarded a prize. Each time a student attempted any of the challenges, their name was placed on a raffle ticket and entered into a draw to win the grand prize of a £20 JD voucher. Well done to Zac Priestly, Chenille Reeve, Lauren Hodge who won individual event prizes and to Zac again, who won the JD voucher prize.

Next was the event which the students had all been eagerly awaiting; the “Sponge a Teacher” event. Mrs Georgiou, Mr Round and Ms Alesbrook volunteered to be on the receiving end of freezing cold and wet sponges thrown by the pupils. A drenched Mrs Georgiou truly took one for the team after having a fully container of water poured directly over her head from close range – all in the name of charity and a good cause.

The final event of the day was a “Students VS Teachers” game of dodgeball game. A few head shots, backward rolls and John McEnroe-esque tantrums later, all students and staff finished school on a positive vibe having raised £62.82 for charity.

Well done and thank you to all those all those that ran, threw, jumped and ate in order to help vulnerable people, across the UK and the world, to live happier, healthier and safer lives.
